Tomato Scare Breaks Record

As noted in a piece in The Packer, the recent Salmonella-tainted tomato outbreak is the largest on record. Current reports cite the number of illnesses at 613 in 33 states (as of June 24). As reported in the article, Robert Tauxe, deputy director, Division of Foodborne, Bacterial and Mycotic Diseases, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), has said this is the largest Salmonella outbreak linked to tomatoes since the agency started keeping records in the late 1960s.
